Dr Rughani is a fully qualified Specialist Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon based in Brisbane & North Lakes.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons in England. He is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons & Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Milap completed his Plastic Surgery training in Oxford UK in 2016, thereafter completed 2 more years of fellowships in Australia and has been working as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Brisbane since 2019.
He continues to have a research interest and passion for teamwork in theatre and promoting patient safety in surgery.
Milap has also produced his own podcast with the aim of improving education and learning in plastic surgery for all.
Milap undertook his tertiary studies at the University of Leeds, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (First class Honours) and a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery.
He went on to complete his plastic surgery training in Oxford, UK, and postgraduate research in Melanoma at the University of Oxford. His research has been highlighted by the University of Oxford (Green-Templeton College) Alumni.
Throughout his career, Milap has published sixteen research papers and presents his work regularly at national and international conferences.
Dr Rughani has undertaken further training in the USA, India, the UK and Australia in order to gain knowledge and experience to improve and apply surgical best practice for all of his patients.
In addition to his plastic surgery training, he has completed subspecialty surgical fellowships in Microsurgical reconstruction of the face, head and body (Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, QLD) and Melanoma & Surgical oncology (Melanoma Institute Australia, Sydney).
He has been awarded fellowships to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College Surgeons England.
Most recently, he has spent the last 6 years as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Royal Brisbane & Womens' Hospital where he has performed major surgery for cancer and trauma patients. He is a member of the head & neck and melanoma multidisciplinary team meetings; which receive referrals from all over Queensland.
Milap is passionate about research and education because this promotes better patient care.
As a practising surgeon, he continues to seek and learn the most advanced and proven techniques from industry colleagues and professionals, while also sharing his knowledge and experience with younger plastic surgeons in training.
Milap has completed a Diploma in Higher Education (University of Oxford) and was awarded the Queensland Clinical Educator of the Year Award in 2020 by the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils.
He has an enthusiasm for training younger surgeons and has produced a podcast to promote education and learning in plastic surgery.
Milap has an active interest in research and has completed postgraduate research in Melanoma at the University of Oxford and at the Melanoma Institute Australia.
He is currently a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Queensland and often sought to present his clinical research at national and international conferences.
Outside of the office, Milap loves spending time with his wife and two daughters, and in his free time, he enjoys playing cricket, squash, cooking and baking. He tries to cycle to work as often as he can and is currently training for the Bridge to Brisbane race.

This was one of the first operations of its kind in the world, performed by Dr Milap Rughani and Dr Michael Wagels.

He has always been passionate about skin cancer and is currently leading a study on Scalp squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) in Queensland.
